About Angela |
I trust in nature, I trust in women, and I trust in birth. A woman’s birth journey is a sacred, personal process and one that I love to honor and support. It is my belief that given the proper support a woman can be truly present with her wisdom, her intuition, her strength, and her beauty through pregnancy and through labor. Because a woman’s body is made to grow, nourish, birth, and care for her child, I serve as a resource to help connect the amazing energy of a woman’s body with her baby. I believe that this powerful energy is what makes birth such a transformative event for the expectant family and child.
It is your right to pursue the birth you desire, have your choices honored, and your voice heard. As your doula, it is my intention to give your family the tools necessary to accomplish your goals and experience a peaceful transition into parenthood that will forever strengthen the bond with your family. I celebrate families in whatever form they take, and I believe that you should be satisfied and nourished through your birth experience. I am growing and blossoming each day on my journey with birth work. My passion to do this work came to me while preparing for the birth of my daughter, Norah. Without local relatives nearby, I found myself absorbed in the work of establishing a village of friends and resources. I gained confidence in birth, and the transition to motherhood, through the support and knowledge of my own doulas, midwives, and childbirth educators. Grateful for their work, I considered how I, too, could give back to the community of women around me. As my daughter's first birthday approached, I began to reflect upon my pregnancy and birth experience. I recognized the incredible value in the education and care received by my village; my ecstatic and empowered birth experience was directly correlated to their involvement. I was attuned to the need for genuine, loving, non-judgmental support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I then began to learn about the history of birth and the many choices of birthing women - believing that all women have the right to an authentic experience, one in which they feel honored, respected, and true to their individual choices. With a background in education, and my greatest inspiration through the journey of motherhood, I discovered the soulful work of being a doula. I love everything about the health and happiness of women, children and families and value each woman's unique birth experience. San Diego has been my home since 2005, after relocating from Illinois where I received my M.A. in Education. I served as an elementary and middle school educator for fifteen years, spending summers as a social service volunteer in developing countries. Soon after my daughter's birth, I decided to focus on mothering and birth work. I find joy in simple things: hiking, good music, reading, gardening, baking, running, and learning about the world. My dream is to teach and learn from the wonders on all of our continents; I am 5/7 of the way there... Birth Blessings, Angela |
